Welcome to Cape Wide Telephone
Cape Wide Telephone was started by Louis and Cynthia Pena in 1991. Louis previously worked for A T & T as a special services technician. In the beginning Lou did the selling, servicing and the installation and Cynthia answered the telephone and sent out the bills. Over the years Lou and Cynthia grew the business one satisfied customer at a time. Many of those customers from 1991 are still Cape Wide Telephone customers today. Cape Wide Telephone grew conservatively. Technicians were added as the business grew and Lou couldn’t handle all of the installation and service demands. Many of those technicians also worked for the Bell System or other telecommunications equipment manufacturers.
The product line at Cape Wide Telephone evolved also over the years. AVAYA and Nortel were the cornerstones of the products offered along with ComDial, Picazo and others. In 1995 ESI of Plano, TX introduced their Integrated Voice Exchange (IVX) a revolutionary product with the patented “All In One” system. Lou saw the value of the ESI system and Cape Wide Telephone installed their first ESI-IVX in 1996. That very system is still there today. ESI started with a core of 6 people in 1987 and has grown to 120 employees and a $55M company.
In 2002, Lou added his first sales person. Byron Lafferty joined Cape Wide Telephone after 32 years at Verizon/Bell Atlantic/Nynex/New England Telephone. Byron’s sole responsibility was to grow the customer base and allow Lou and Cynthia to focus on running a business.
When Byron came on board; Lou patiently taught him the nuances of the AVAYA and Nortel systems focusing on design and pricing. Coming from a 30+ year career in telecommunications sales, Byron was looking for the advantages of the various products and how they would benefit their existing and potential customers. After attending an ESI training session, Byron saw the value of the ESI product also. As ESI and Cape Wide grew in size, so did their relationship. In 2002, ESI focused on small customers with fewer than 50 telephones. As their resellers across the country demanded larger systems, ESI gradually rolled out products with more capacity. Today ESI offers systems from one telephone to 1000 and Cape Wide Telephone has embraced the ESI communications server platform as their flagship vehicle. We have hundreds of ESI systems installed all over Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, the South Shore and Southeastern, MA. Cape Wide Telephone is proud to be ranked in the top 5%, in customer satisfaction, of all the ESI resellers across the country.
Over the years, there were yellow pages ads, a web site, radio ads, print articles, promotional items and more; but our reputation for fair prices, the latest in technology and extraordinary service has earned us many referrals and new customers. The strongest advertising Cape Wide Telephone uses is “word of mouth”; our customers are our best sales people. Check out what our customers say about us in the section “Why hire us?”
Cape Wide Telephone continues to investigate new and proven technology. We are constantly looking for ways to save customers money and not sacrifice good service. Such technologies as voice over IP (VoIP) and S.I.P. trunking are attractive to some resellers and customers. Cape Wide Telephone will only recommend a technology if it benefits the customer and doesn’t expose them to unforeseen risks.
Give a call and let us show you what we can do for you.
